Ashland Manufacturing Company in Sheridan Village 1898. Back when Sheridan Village was actually larger than Ashland, ME in population. Population in 1901 was nearly 1600 in Sheridan due to the mill. At one time this mill was one of the largest manufactures of roofing shingles in the world and largest producer of board feet. Sheridan Village once known as Buchanan Plantation was annexed by the town of Ashland in c. 1901 after Ashland realized the tax revenue it was losing due to the mill and township not being with in its borders. Sheridan Mt is in the background and the old Sheridan dam is left center.


Sheridan Village Maine log jam

Log drive down the Aroostook River in Sheridan Village in c.1902-1903. Logs would jam up around the trestle on way to Ashland Manufacturing Company and dynamite had to be used to break up the jams.
